The public university Victoria University (VU) is regarded as a dual-sector tertiary institution. The institution offers both higher education and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) degrees. It received university status accreditation in the year 1991. On its campuses, it provides a variety of higher education, training, and vocational programmes. As a dual-sector university, it provides a simple path for students looking to advance to higher levels of study, such as from vocational training to higher education, certificate or diploma programmes to undergraduate degrees, and postgraduate degrees beyond. Six academic colleges, seven research centres, six research institutes, and the university's Victoria Polytechnic are all still in operation.
