You'll begin immediately learning how to handle disaster preparedness, and how to coordination real emergencies and deal with catastrophes. You'll tackle risk assessment theory, terrorism, mitigation/prevention, response and recovery techniques. These skills are unique, sophisticated and invaluable. And you'll have earned them all. You'll also have the flexibility to learn these skills in a mixture of online and in-class learning, tailored to your schedule and your needs.

Work within the business/industry and public sectors in positions relating to emergency management planning and liaising with community partners. Your work will be behind the scenes, ensuring lives are saved, property protected.

This program is delivered in a blended in-class/online delivery format. It is suitable for students who can commit one day per week in-class and who are also self-motivated to complete the extensive on-line learning that is required.

Career Opportunities

Findings indicate that there are current and emerging employment opportunities within the business/industry and public sectors. Positions are likely to be found in larger companies and municipalities with duties related to:

• Ensuring operational capability and general state of readiness for the emergency control group and the emergency operations centre
• Liasing with community partners and community leaders to develop and implement the emergency plan
• Assembling a general emergency management plan, as well as common priority plans covering public information, emergency social services, evacuation and telecommunications, and hazard-specific preparedness plans for each hazard facing a community
