You will experience every phase of pre-production, production and post-production while learning from industry-active filmmakers with projects such as Beauty and the Beast, Black Panther, The Shape of Water and Star Trek Beyond to their credit. The program covers various aspects of filmmaking, including writing and analyzing screenplays, developing storyboards, creating shot lists and preparing budgets and schedules. You will learn to shoot, direct, block, light scenes and capture audio, as well as assemble, cut and manipulate footage. Upon graduation, the Film Production Work Placement helps you experience the creative workforce through placement opportunities in Canada’s “Hollywood North.”
Film production work placement
Success in screen industries comes from a blend of education, experience and connections. The 6 and 12-month Film Production Work Placements offer you an opportunity to obtain all three ingredients. Through curated work opportunities, you will be embedded in the industry. You will have the chance to work with multiple companies and work alongside professionals on film projects in Toronto.
Cross collaboration
We provide a unique opportunity for cross-industry collaboration. You’ll bring your productions to life, working with students across creative programs including Writing for Film and TV, Acting for Film, TV & the Theatre and Video Game Design. Through both on-campus and off-campus productions, you’ll be mentored by a variety of cross-industry professionals.
Real world education
From your first term, you are on set, behind the camera, inside editing stations and in distribution meetings. You produce at least one film project per term and gain hands-on experience, working each position on set, in a range of productions. You learn how to shoot in multiple styles with access to Toronto Film School’s studios and industry-standard cameras like the ALEXA Mini and ARRI Amira. The Film Production Work Placement then elevates all that you have learned in school to the next level and gives you the unique opportunity to work in studios and production houses in Toronto.
Industry Professionals
You’ll be mentored by a variety of award-winning and in-demand filmmakers. Working directors, assistant directors, producers, production managers, cinematographers, camera operators, writers and distributors all bring invaluable industry practices and insights into the classroom.
