Contents, goals and course of study

Future-oriented management skills

As part of your master’s degree, you can choose between two main areas:

'General Business Administration (BWL)' and 'Human Resources Management'.

A broad spectrum of overarching competences is imparted in both study orientations so that you, as a future manager or HR expert, can successfully and creatively shape and manage companies. Both study orientations of the Master's in Business Administration - General Business Administration and Human Resources - have both management and scientific competencies in common. They differ in some modules in the specialist area.

Management skills

Topics such as general management, strategic management, leadership and business development serve to develop management skills. Different basic attitudes and specific procedures are tested and practiced in interactive settings. You will learn about the main tasks and functions of companies using examples and case studies. The academic reflection in the form of "Case Studies" at a high level is the basis for later targeted and sustainable problem solving.

Competence in scientific work

In this part of the master's program in Business Administration, you will deal with static and econometric methods. You will apply the knowledge you have acquired in the module "Applied methods of quantitative and qualitative methods of economic research and decision theory".

The degree concludes with the academic title of Master of Science (M.Sc.). You are formally and methodically qualified for a doctorate.

Career, prospects

Perspectives in Business Administration (BWL)

Your chances of success are excellent because business economists are needed everywhere, regardless of the industry. This is mainly due to the fact that the skills profiles of business economists are so extensive.

According to publications by the employment agency, the number of registered positions for economics experts with at least four years of university education has risen sharply since 2009. With an annual average of 1,400 offers, most positions in the field of company organization and strategy as well as in the area of human resources were advertised with 800 offers.

You can apply for a variety of positions in business with a degree in Master of Business Administration (BWL) or with a focus on human resources across industries. In addition to specialist trainee positions, you can also take on overarching tasks, for example as an assistant to the executive board or management assistant. In the case of a specialization in human resources, you also have the opportunity to directly enter essential fields of human resources work as a human resources expert.

In any case, after completing your master's degree, all doors are open to you in a wide variety of industries, regardless of whether it is for small and medium-sized companies or for large DAX companies. Every company needs a well-trained workforce to compete and grow in global and regional markets. It is not just individual companies that are attractive as employers. Consulting companies also offer an attractive career option.
