The BSc (Hons) in Technology Management course is designed to enable students to develop and refine business, leadership, and managerial skills with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles of management in a technology environment.

The course provides a sound knowledge base of technology management principles and their practical application.

As a graduate of this course you will:

  • Build a knowledge and understanding of theory, concepts, and methods in the IT and business fields in particular in the following areas (according to specialisation): information systems, business analysis, data analysis, social media.
  • Gain a detailed knowledge and understanding of how to develop the organisation’s IT strategy, the expertise required for successful information systems management, and how the business environment in technology operates.
  • Demonstrate a mastery of the tools in order to conduct various IT and business related activities, in particular data analysis, information systems and social media management.
  • Analytically identify, select, formulate and manage strategies and solutions in business and technology management.
  • Learn to use different technology resources, such as data and information systems, to inform decision making
  • Apply appropriate independent learning strategies which meet the requirements of the rapidly changing computing industry.
  • Gain a view of how humans perceive and react to change, and the importance of culture and leadership in an organisation.
  • An ability to apply best practice in building trust, motivation and collaborative work, among diverse and multicultural groups.

Who is the course for?

If you are interested in IT and business this course will appeal to you. The course is for school leavers, mature students and graduates of QQI level 5/6 programmes who wish to embark on a course of full-time study.

Course Structure and Award

This full-time course is a four-year honours degree run over eight semesters with continuous assessment held throughout the course and examinations at the end of each semester. On completion you will receive a QQI BSc (Hons) Degree in Technology Management at level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications.

Work Experience

The course is industry-focused with a six month work placement. NCI students are highly sought after and have completed work experience in companies like Microsoft, O2, ESB, Wells Fargo, Dotmobi, Datalex and Intel.

Further Study Options

Upon successful completion of the BSc (Hons) Degree in Technology Management, graduates can progress to postgraduate programmes at level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications such as the MSc in Mobile Technologies, MSc in Web Technologies, MSc in Cloud Computing and MSc in Data Analytics at National College of Ireland.

Career Prospects

The interdisciplinary nature of the course is designed to lead graduates towards employment in the business and/or information technology domains. Graduates from this course are working within companies including Google, Citi, Hertz, Dell, BNY Mellon, Electric Ireland, Hewlett Packard, OmniPay and Realex Payments. Roles are diverse and include sales, account management, fund accounting, data analysis and management information reporting.
