The aim of the programme is to produce Dental Surgeons with a broad academic dental education who will be able to function in all areas of clinical dentistry practising evidence-based comprehensive dentistry based on a problem solving approach, using basic theoretical and practical skills. Furthermore, this course of study is aimed at producing Dental Surgeons who are trained sufficiently in dental science, and are able to work with other dental and health care professionals in the health care system (both public and private). In addition the Dental Surgeon will be prepared for life-long learning and continuing professional development that is essential in the modern professional world.

The degree enables the successful candidate to practice dentistry both in private practice and in institutional settings. It provides an entry level degree allowing progress to postgraduate studies.
