There’s a huge demand for the knowledge and skills this two-year course teaches. Get ready for a rewarding career in the areas of computing that interest you the most.
You’ll develop the theoretical, technical and practical understanding you need to catch the eye of employers. There’ll be lectures and seminars combined with work-based learning and plenty of course options to personalise your studies.
Year one provides a detailed introduction to computer systems, design and programming and you’ll apply what you learn on your first work placement. Year two covers specialisms such as databases, software engineering and networks – and there’s a further work placement.
Whatever branch of technology you want to enter, from mobile apps to international business systems, supercomputer research to the web, this course is a solid step in the right direction – to a good job or towards higher qualifications and research.
By the time you graduate, you’ll be a confident computer scientist and engineer with a sound understanding of the main principles, valuable work experience and the ability to create applications and solutions using different technologies.
Additionally you’ll be ready for the professional workplace, with a sound knowledge of the relevant methods and practices, strong planning, administration and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively with fellow team members.
Complete this course and you can transfer to year three of either our BSc (Hons) Computer Science course, taught in Cambridge or Kings Lynn, or BSc (Hons) Computing and Information Systems, taught in Peterborough.
Our graduates have gone on the successful careers in many areas of computing, including applications development, programming, database development, web infrastructure and applications, business systems, project management, networking and user support.
They’re also working in many different industries, including defence, health, business and telecommunications.
