Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology at King's
In the heart of London
Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology is a flexible, broad-based degree programme that integrates studies in anatomy, embryology and development, neuroscience, human behaviour, biochemistry, physiology, genetics and aspects of human health and disease.
Description
We are one of the few universities to offer an Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology BSc. Our course provides an opportunity for you to explore the anatomy of the body and to integrate this understanding with cutting- edge research in embryology, evolution and cell and molecular biology. You will learn how these rapidly advancing and interlinked fields of scientific investigation are helping us to better understand human structure and function.
This course forms part of the suite of ‘Common Year 1’ courses within the School of Bioscience Education. These comprise: Anatomy, Developmental & Human Biology; Biochemistry; Biomedical Science; Medical Physiology; Molecular Genetics; Neuroscience; Pharmacology. Once you have successfully completed year one, you can then progress through to years 2 and 3 where you can tailor your course of study to focus on those areas that interest you most. If you wish, you can also choose to switch to any other course within the School of Bioscience Education.
Students in year 2 are eligible to study abroad at a selection of international partner universities including Monash (Melbourne) and National University of Singapore. Students are required to take one Anatomy and one Development module to remain on the degree course. While travel and subsistence are the student’s responsibility, fees during study abroad are paid at a reduced rate.
A year of study abroad is in place of Year 2 although marks achieved are not part of the final degree calculation. At the end of this year, students rejoin at the start of Year 3.
In your final year you will have the opportunity to conduct advanced experimental laboratory work in areas such as developmental biology, cell biology, stem cell biology or reproductive neuroendocrinology.
Career prospects
Graduates from the School of Bioscience Education are equipped with a variety of transferable skills including data gathering, analysis and interpretation, presentation skills and teamwork.
