Overview
Our Electronic Engineering MEng course focuses on four key areas in electronics: circuits and systems, signal processing, computing and communication. You will develop in-depth knowledge of and practical expertise in circuit analysis and design, communication systems, computation and software programming for engineers, and hardware design, which will provide a foundation for senior roles in electronics, signal processing, and communication industries.
Key benefits
Description
Our course will provide you with a thorough and deep understanding of electronic engineering and design techniques. The diverse nature of our course will give you a strong foundation in electronic engineering along with general control and computer systems. There is also a strong focus on developing mathematical skills, which you will use to analyse the performance of communication and control systems.
You will study modules across electronic circuits, hardware design, telecommunication networks, introduction to robotics, and foundations of computing, with optional modules specialising in digital signal processing, robotic systems, optical communications, and other advanced topics. This course will challenge you to think more broadly, translating electronic engineering into everyday life through pattern recognition and cryptography, and telecommunication networks. The fourth and final year of your MEng degree will provide further opportunities for you to deepen and apply your specialist knowledge.
Teaching
You are expected to spend approximately 10 hours work per credit for each module you attend in your degree, e.g. 150 hours work for a 15 credit module. These hours cover every aspect of the module: lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, independent study, coursework and preparation for examinations.
Assessment
You will be assessed through written examinations, project reports, and coursework. For the practical and design elements, you will be assessed through laboratory write-ups, design projects, presentations, research project reports and oral examinations.
