The King’s International Foundation – Computer Science & Engineering and the Extended King's International Foundation - Computer Science & Engineering are specialist academic preparation courses designed for ambitious international and EU students who want to study a related undergraduate degree at King’s College London.
It is a full-time course aimed to develop your essential knowledge in your chosen degree subject area, introduce you to the UK education system and improve your academic English so that you’re fully prepared for your degree.
This course is ideal if you have excellent high school grades and:
- Need an extra year of study to apply to King’s or other UK universities.
- Have a qualification that allows you to apply for an undergraduate degree at King’s but would like the extra preparation before you start.

The King’s International Foundation – Computer Science & Engineering and Extended King's International Foundation - Computer Science & Engineering courses are jointly delivered by the King's English Language Centre and the Faculty of Natural & Mathematical Sciences.
It provides a structured journey for you to enter into a science-based undergraduate degree at King’s. You will learn essential skills to prepare you for the demands of undergraduate study including:
By the end of the course, you will have improved your overall academic skills, your academic language and have a more detailed understanding of your chosen academic subject.
During the first semester, you will receive dedicated support for making your university application through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)
You will also have the opportunity to take a range of optional International English Language Testing System (IELTS) classes and tutorials.
Teaching
A typical academic week includes an average of 16 contact hours, but some weeks will see a different number of contact hours. You are expected to commit to an average of 16 hours a week of independent study, including independent research tasks.
The course is taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, classes and laboratory-based practicals. You will be assigned a personal tutor who you will meet with on a regular basis to receive individual advice on your progress.
Assessment
The nature of assessment varies by module. Most modules are assessed through coursework and final examinations. In addition, some modules are assessed through presentations and practical laboratory examinations.
