Course Details

Gain an insight into financial markets and understand how financial decisions taken by individuals and organisations impact on the world around us. As well as being prepared for a successful legal career, you will be able to use your knowledge of financial ideas, theories and regulations to contribute to the commercial success of an organisation.

As a qualifying law degree, this course is recognised by the regulatory bodies of the legal profession, including the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board, as fulfilling the academic stage of your legal training.

Combining your legal studies with a range of finance-related subjects such as accountancy and economics could open up alternative careers in business and finance.

This course offers the opportunity to take a ‘sandwich’ year – a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree, typically making your course four years in total. Students who choose the sandwich route find it helps with both their studies and getting a job after graduation. It can build your confidence, contacts, and of course your CV. Changes to legal education and training
Legal education and training is currently under detailed review by professional regulators in the legal sector. The review is examining the education and training routes into the legal profession and the qualifications and assessments to be undertaken and passed in order to become a solicitor or barrister. The outcome of the review includes proposals to remove existing routes and establish new ones. 

The review outcomes are still being finalised. In the meantime, the LLB programmes and the GDL offered by Leeds Law School continue to comply with the regulatory requirements currently in force for the academic stage of legal training for qualification as a barrister or a solicitor.
