This games design and development degree specialising in modelling and animation will set you up for exciting careers in the games design industry.

Our degree prepares you for careers in video game design with a particular focus on modelling and animation. You don't need previous experience in graphic design or modelling - just a passion for computer games and games development.

After learning the basics in scripting languages such as JavaScript, C# and C++, you move on to 3D modelling, creating, rigging and controlling models in 3D game engines. You'll emerge with the ability to create and market your own computer games, with specialist skills in 3D modelling and animation.

  •  The degree encompasses a theoretical understanding and practical experience of designing, constructing and modifying a wide range of systems
  •  Specialist endorsement degrees will help you build a career within your chosen area, and gain the valuable skills employers are looking for
  •  For eight consecutive years the University of Greenwich has been nominated by TIGA for Educational Institution.

Careers and placements

Will I have a work placement?

You can opt to register on 'sandwich mode' which means you can do a one year, full time, paid placement in between your second and final year. Whilst on a sandwich placement you retain your student status and have full support from the University and your tutors as normal. Students are responsible for finding their own placements though we will support you through the application process.

Former Games and Digital Media students have secured placement years at Kent Connects, Orange Games and Affiliate Window.

How long is my placement?

Sandwich placements must last for a minimum of 36 weeks full-time, though they can be as long as 13 months.

What are the financial arrangements?

Sandwich placements are usually paid full-time positions. The salary should reflect the going rate for an entry level role in the relevant industry.

What sort of careers do graduates pursue?

Career destinations include the independent and mobile games sectors as programmers, modellers and designers, the Augmented, Virtual and Mixed reality developers, UI and UX designers for digital media and games, games content creators and deliverers, back-end developers and content managers.

Are internships available?

Students are encouraged to gain relevant work experience if possible, including internships, and can be paid or unpaid. Students are responsible for finding their own internships though we will support you through the application process.

Do you provide employability services?

Employability activities take place all the time at Greenwich and students are encouraged to take part in as many opportunities as possible.

The central Employability and Careers Service provides support for students preparing to apply for placements and graduate roles, such as CV clinics, mock interviews and employability skills workshops.

Each School also has its own Employability Officer who provides specific opportunities relevant to your own course. They work closely with professionals in the industry to ensure you are well-prepared for the workplace and have already begun to build your professional network by the time you graduate.
