Mathematicians are employed across all sectors of industry, both in the service and manufacturing sectors. The world of big data is on us, and one of the key skills that the modern mathematician should develop is how to interrogate data and use it to make business decisions. Especially in the world of technology, innovations such as Google (essentially a mathematical algorithm) show us that mathematicians need to understand how to take a business idea to market, in lean way.
This course is unique in that it trains you in both mathematics and commerce, including some of the skills needed for creating a start-up company. For this you will need to understand how an entrepreneur behaves and the planning required to judge whether a product is suitable for market. You will need to research who your competitors are and whether you need to protect your idea with a patent. Other essential aspects of the course include how to create a business plan, how to gain finance and how to market your product. You will learn how to start up a venture, how to create a culture within a group and how to be a leader. There will be the opportunity for you to work with businesses, meet entrepreneurs and even start up your own enterprise.

University of Leicester Application Process

How to Apply?
The steps to be followed while applying for admission to the University of Leicester are as follows:
Application Fees: 25 GBP for applying through UCAS; Postgraduate application is free for almost all courses. Some postgraduate courses require an application fee.
Application Deadline: UG applicants: UCAS application deadline – June 30; Medicine and Dentistry programs – October 15; PG applicants – Varies according to program
Entry Requirements: The entry requirements for undergraduate and postgraduate applicants must be fulfilled before applying:
- Undergraduate:
- Completed the standard XII by the ICSE/CBSE, or another recognized state exam board, with at least 75% overall or higher depending on the course.
- Undergraduate applicants with incomplete entry requirements can apply for an International Foundation Program which provides academic support to help applicants progress to his/her chosen undergraduate degree at the University.
- Postgraduate: A Bachelor's degree with a First class classification and an average of at least 60/75% (depending on the chosen course).
