Our Events Management Joint Honours course offers a practical approach to the successful management of a wide range of events. Experiences are at the heart of this degree course, so you will have the opportunity plan and deliver an event every year. There are numerous opportunities to engage in work placements, project work and to network with successful events businesses.

We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

Course Details

Throughout this course you will learn the principles and theoretical frameworks related to events management and how to apply this theory in practice. You will cover the following course themes: logistics and operations management, risk management, health and safety, strategy, finance, event communications, project management, sustainability, economic and social impacts of events.

Our experienced teaching staff combine the academic aspects of the course with their own professional backgrounds in the events industry. You will gain a broad understanding of the core business knowledge needed in the sector which is supported by regular guest speakers from industry. The course offers a wide range of options to suit a variety of interests and aspirations.

Our links with industry provide you with opportunities to gain valuable work experience alongside your studies.you can select two subjects as joint for stage one. You may then continue with equal emphasis on two subjects as a joint degree in stages two and three, or switch to a major or minor split. The degree title is derived from the two subjects.

Optional Work Placement Year

You are encouraged to undertake a year-long placement in between Stages Two and Three of study. If you meet the entry criteria, and choose to take up a placement year you will find it an invaluable experience that helps you to apply your learning in your final year and prepares you for your career. Whilst on your Optional Work Placement Year you will study a 40 credit module ‘The Placement Year Experience – Organisations in Context’. We offer a lot of support in helping you to find a placement, which can be in the UK or overseas. Previous students have completed their placement year at Silverstone, the De Vere Hotel Group, Best Parties Ever, Goodyear Dunlop, The Holiday Inn and Northamptonshire County Council.

Methods of Learning

Your course will be based on a series of lectures and smaller seminars or workshops. Some of your studying will be completed online, enabling you to complete some of the work at a time that is convenient for you. You will have a supportive network around you including your programme leader and personal tutor.

Schedule

This course can be studied over three years full-time or four years with an optional work placement year. We also offer a flexible part-time option.

Assessments

A variety of individual and group based assessments are used including reports, presentations, posters, e-portfolios, projects, client briefs, multiple-choice tests and examinations.

If you are studying this course you can expect taught study to be a combination of lectures, seminars and workshops, usually for 12 hours per week. We recommend that you spend 30 hours per week in self-directed study time.

University of Northampton Application Process

Basic Admission Requirements

  1. Certified transcripts of high school/college/university
  2. One reference required
  3. Statement of Purpose depicting the interest of the applicant in the chosen course
  4. MBA applicants must also have a proof of work experience
  5. Arts and design applicant must also submit their portfolio 

The outcomes of the English proficiency tests taken by all of the international applicants. IELTS, TOEFL iBT, and Pearson PTE are acceptable tests. The minimal IELTS scores needed to get admitted are as follows:
