OVERVIEW

Our Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (School Nursing) will prepare you for 21st century School Nursing practice and entry to the third part of the professional NMC register.

While studying, you will acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical experience required to promote and improve the health and wellbeing of children, young people, families and communities.

The programme of study leads to both an academic award and professional qualification. It consists of equally distributed theoretical learning and practice based experience.

Upon completion of our PgDip you will gain critical understanding of a range of specialised theories, principles and concepts influencing contemporary school nursing practice. You’ll be equipped to work in the dynamic role of School Nursing and practise legally, safely and effectively without direct supervision.

COURSE DETAILS

Our course leads to both an academic award and professional qualification. It consists of equally distributed theoretical learning and practice based experience within the six core modules. Each module takes into consideration the health care needs of:

  • children
  • young people
  • families
  • communities

For the award of Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) and professional registration, you are required to complete six, 20 credit modules (120 credits):

  • Research for Health & Social Care (core, 20 credits)
  • Contemporary School Nursing (core, 20 credits)
  • NMC Leadership for Effectiveness (core, 20 credits)
  • Enhancing Wellbeing in Children & Young People (core, 20 credits)
  • NMC Responding to Public Health Challenges (core, 20 credits)
  • Consolidation of Practice (core, 20 credits)

Jobs

On completion of our course you will be eligible for employment at a specialist practitioner level.

Upon completion, you will have the required intellectual and observable skills to practise legally, safely and effectively without direct supervision. You will have competencies in:

  • advanced assessment practice
  • leadership
  • public health

Further Study

Our course will prepare you academically to progress to Masters level study with the option of continuing to the MSc Health Studies (Community Health).
