Social Work at Chicago State University

Social work is an academic discipline and practice-based profession that concerns itself with individuals, families, groups, and communities in an effort to enhance social functioning and overall well-being by aiding them in finding their own solutions that leads to self-reliance. Social work applies social sciences, such as sociology, psychology, political science, public health, community development, law, and economics, to engage with client systems, conduct assessments, and develop interventions to solve social and personal problems; and to bring about social change.

The Master’s of Social Work program is designed to prepare graduates for advanced professional roles as social service workers, supervisors and administrators in public and nonprofit human service organizations. Graduates are also prepared for doctoral study in social work and related fields.
