Cleveland State University, a public research institution, was founded in 1964. Cleveland State University's 85-acre main campus is located in the heart of downtown Cleveland. Cleveland State University is proud to have the lowest rates of graduate debt, which are even $2,000 lower than the state average. As a result, the university has the second-lowest graduate debt rates in Ohio State. The university accepts admissions applications throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Prospective international students can request admission to Cleveland State University via the online application portal. Applications for undergraduate programmes are processed within a few days to a few weeks. Annually, the acceptance rate at Cleveland State University ranges between 95 and 100 percent. The institution accepts more than 16,000 new students annually. Over 1,400 of them are international students.

Cleveland State University encourages its undergraduate students to live on campus. Fenn Tower and Euclid Commons are two housing options for undergraduate students at Cleveland State University that are only available for one academic year. All residents must enrol in a residential food plan in order to utilise the campus dining facilities. Cleveland State University charges domestic and international students different tuition rates. The standard food package costs $1,507 per semester. Students should be aware that there are limited housing options on campus and that acceptance order takes precedence. To maximise their chances of approval, applicants must submit their housing applications as soon as possible, along with a non-refundable $25 USD fee. Candidates may also choose to rent off-campus housing in close proximity to the university. Please note, however, that the university does not own, manage, or endorse these residential facilities in any way.

International students who are not eligible for the Federal Work-Study grant may apply for on-campus employment through the CSU Non-Work Study Program. In order to work, these students must obtain authorization from the Center for International Services and Programs (CISP). For international students to be eligible to work on campus, they must be enrolled full-time at their university, have a Social Security number, and submit payroll tax forms. During regular academic semesters, students may not work more than 20 hours per week (not more than 40 hours a week during school breaks).

Cleveland State University International Admissions

The Center for International Services and Programs serves as the hub for all international activities on campus. Through International Student Orientation, immigration advising, social events, and cultural adjustment support, they help international students connect to university and the local community. F-1, F-2, and J-1 students can get immigration advice and academic support through International Student Services, which is part of the Center for International Services & Programs. This office also provides specialist advice to sponsored students.

Following are the requirements for international admissions:

  • Transcripts: 
    • All secondary school records, including certificates.
    •  All school records are required to be submitted in the original language accompanied by a certified English translation.
  • Cumulative secondary school GPA should be equivalent to a 2.3 on the US grading scale for most programs.
  • The exceptions to the GPA requirement are 
    • The College of Engineering, which requires a 3.0 score (83-86%)
    • The College of Education and Human Services, which requires a 2.5 score (77-79%)
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • ACT or SAT scores for UG applicants
  • Financial verification: 
    • In order to receive a certificate of eligibility for a student visa (Form I-20 or Form DS-2019) from Cleveland State University (CSU), all international students must submit documentation of financial support for one academic year.

Married Students:

A married student who plans to bring his/her dependents will require an additional $3,500 for the spouse, $2,000 for 1 child or $5,058 for two or more children. These amounts should be added to the total number under the appropriate column. Additional insurance for family of F1 students is optional, but highly recommended. F2 dependents are not permitted to work or enroll in classes.

Enrollment Requirement:

Immigration regulations require that all students are enrolled full-time. Students who are admitted to the summer semester must enroll full-time for that semester and subsequent terms.
