The university's sports team, the Northeastern Huskies, participated in 18 varsity sports in NCAA Division I against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) members. In 1935, the College of Liberal Arts was established. Women were not admitted to the college until after World War II. The college has a number of affiliations with other colleges, including Tufts University, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and Hebrew College. Among the research institutes are the Advanced Scientific Computation Center (ASCC) and the Affective Science Institute (ASI). Between 2006 and 2019, 308 patents were awarded to staff and students.
