San Francisco State University received 36,223 applicants in 2016, but only 24,704 were accepted. It has a College of Ethnic Studies and is the 11th most diverse institution in the nation. The institution received an endowment of $83.7 million in 2017. There are roughly 2,800 postgraduate students and 26,500 undergraduate students, respectively. More than 1,620 experts work as academic staff to care for these students. Students pursuing a bachelor's degree have 77 academic options to choose from, while those pursuing a postgraduate degree have 63 options. The university also provides 16 credential programmes and 41 certificate programmes.

Several well-known graduates from San Francisco State University have made contributions to politics, the arts, and science. SFSU has ties to a number of actors and actresses, including Danny Glover, Alex Borstein, Dana Carvey, and Annette Bening, who plays Lois on Family Guy. Kirk Hammett, the band's lead guitarist, was a student there as well. Both Stanley Mazor, a co-inventor of the microprocessor, and Jonas Rivera, the producer of Pixar Animation Studios, attended this university. Former American congressman George Miller and Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif are SFSU alums. Willie Brown, the city of San Francisco's 41st mayor, received his degree in 1955.

  • Certified by the appropriate government or school officials.
  • Official transcripts that are not in English, must be accompanied along with the certified English translation.
• Proof of English Language Proficiency through IELTS/ TOEFL scores
• Submit SAT/ ACT test scores
• A minimum of one letter of recommendation is required.
• For the United States, write an essay and/or a letter of recommendation.
• A current résumé that includes professional experience and educational credentials.
• Proof of linguistic competency in English (Either produce test scores or demonstrate three years of study in any country where English is the primary language of instruction.)
