About State University of New York At New Paltz

The SUNY or State University of New York at New Paltz was founded in 1828 and designated an academy five years later. It was formerly known as New Paltz Classical School and offered instruction in writing, arithmetic, reading, Latin, and Greek at the time. The building was renovated and reconstructed in 1884, after which it became a state school that educated teachers for New York state public schools. In 1938, the institute was transformed into an official four-year college.

Today, the institution offers both undergraduate and graduate courses. Under New Platz are the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, School of Business, School of Education, School of Fine & Performing Arts, School of Science & Engineering, and the graduate school.
