University of Idaho English Language Requirment

The University of Idaho (UI) requires proof of English language proficiency for all non-native English speakers who wish to enroll in academic programs taught in English. This requirement can be met through several different methods.

Applicants may submit official scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic). The minimum required scores for each test are as follows:

• TOEFL: 79 internet-based (iBT), 550 paper-based (PBT), or 213 computer-based (CBT)
• IELTS: 6.5 overall band score
• PTE Academic: 58

UI also accepts the Duolingo English Test, with a minimum score of 105.

Alternatively, applicants may meet the English language proficiency requirement by completing the University of Idaho's Intensive English Program (IEP) or by completing a qualifying English language program at another accredited institution.
