The University of Utah has 17 colleges and schools in the areas of architecture + planning, business, cultural & social transformation, dentistry, education, engineering, fine arts, health, honours college, humanities, law, medicine, mines & earth sciences, nursing, pharmacy, science, social & behavioural science, and social work, spread out over 1,534 acres. It contains about 100 academic departments and a number of multidisciplinary academic programmes.

This university has a component called the University of Utah Health, which employs about 14,000 people. It is one of Utah's major employers, contributing millions of dollars in tax income to the state each year. It is Utah's first university-based health-care facility.

Its College of Fine Arts contains five academic areas and three professional arts organisations. Every year, it features a variety of skits, theatrical performances, artistic exhibits, fascinating concerts, offbeat film screenings, and opportunities to speak with local and foreign artists. This university places a high priority on the commercialization of its research. The University of Utah received $547 million in 2019 for their research spending approach. Furthermore, this university created 211.8 million dollars in licencing revenue and 69 new businesses. Students at the University of Utah can choose from a variety of majors, minors, certifications, BA, BS, BFA/BMUS, BSW, and Honors programmes.
