Cleveland State University’s Master of Science in Health Sciences (MSHS) is a post-baccalaureate online degree designed to prepare individuals for emerging leadership roles in the rapidly changing healthcare, social, and community services environments and to enhance opportunities for advancement in clinical, educational, administrative, and research positions. As such, the goal of the Master of Science in Health Sciences Program (MSHS) is to meet the educational needs of two groups of students:

  1. Licensed Health Care Providers seeking increased responsibility and leadership positions within their discipline for: academic and clinical teaching, clinical research, career development, clinical supervision and administration, and/or program planning, development and evaluation.
  2. General Track Students with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences or a degree in a related area who are not licensed health care providers but are seeking careers in health and human services settings providing auxiliary administrative and management services (e.g. research departments, medical labs, medical records, or continuing education).
  3. Pre-Professional Students (med, dent, pharm, etc) seeking a gap year to complete pre-requisite coursework and further MCAT preparation.

    •  From individuals who are familiar with your work and can assess your academic preparation, abilities, and accomplishments. These may be from previous instructors, supervisors, or professional colleagues who are familiar with your recent activities.
  • Scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or other equivalent standardized test for graduate admissions (DAT, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT and PCAT) taken within the past five years must be provided. 
    • The standardized test requirement may be waived for students who have: 
      • Previous relevant graduate degrees
      • Relevant post graduate certificates/licensure
      • Professional experience
      • Students who have been accepted into the PA program at Tri-C

*Admission to the program is based on a combination of a candidate’s undergraduate GPA and the graduate admission test score.  

-International students are required to have met at least one of the following English language proficiency requirements:

  • TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based): 78 & at least 17 in each section
  • TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based): 550
  • IELTS: 6.0 and at least 5.0 in each section
  • PTE (Pearson’s Test of English): 50
  • iTEP: 3.8

  • Graduates from the MSHS program are working in diverse locations including: hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, and other patient care facilities, private agencies, government positions, nonprofit organizations, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, manufacturing companies, medical laboratories, and consulting firms.
  • Positions graduates commonly obtain include: medical and health services manager, health education specialist, claims reviewer, medical equipment sales representative, and community health specialist.
  • These are some of the local companies that are hiring CSU grads: ICS Laboratories, University Hospitals, Johnson & Johnson, Cleveland Clinic, Case Western, American Health Associates, and MetroHealth Medical Center.

Fees not included in Tuition:

  1. International Matriculation Fee: $100 paid only one time and nonrefundable
  2. International Services Fee: $30 per semester
  3. UPASS: $40.00 per semester provides unlimited travel by bus & rapid transit throughout Cleveland
  4. Amounts are based on one academic year of full-time study (not per semester)
  5. Does not apply to the Intensive English Language Program

Married Students:

A married student who plans to bring his/her dependents will require an additional $3,500 for the spouse, $2,000 for 1 child or $5,058 for two or more children. These amounts should be added to the total number under the appropriate column. Additional insurance for family of F1 students is optional, but highly recommended. F2 dependents are not permitted to work or enroll in classes.

Enrollment Requirement:

Immigration regulations require that all students are enrolled full-time. Students who are admitted to the summer semester must enroll full-time for that semester and subsequent terms.

Full-Time Enrollment:
Undergraduate = at least 12 credit hours per semester
Graduate = at least 9 credit hours per semester
