The University of Delaware (UD), one of the oldest universities in the USA, was founded in 1743. The University of Delaware was first referred to as NewArk College in 1834, and then as Delaware College in 1843. When a women's college merged with Delaware College, the University of Delaware became a legal entity. The University of Delaware's main campus spans 273 acres of land and is situated in Newark. Wilmington, Dover, Georgetown, and Lewes are the locations of UD's other four campuses. With around 80 research centres, the University of Delaware is among the top 3% of American universities for research. The University of Delaware's graduates have 148 patents and 30 businesses as a result of these research centres, which in turn generate 24,450 jobs in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The University of Delaware offers more than 400 degree programmes. At the moment, the University of Delaware has ten schools and colleges including those for agriculture and natural sciences, arts and sciences, business and economics, education and human development, engineering, health sciences, and earth, ocean & environment that offer undergraduate and graduate-level courses. At UD, there are over 250 graduate programmes and over 150 undergraduate programmes accessible.
