University of Pittsburgh English Language Requirment

A 7.0 IELTS with subscores of 6.0 or higher, a 125 or higher Duolingo score, or a TOEFL composite score of 100 with subscores of 21 or higher are all considered competitive for the Pittsburgh campus.

Although applications are evaluated holistically, those with a 95-99 TOEFL score and a high academic record will be given serious attention when applying to the Pittsburgh location. Admission to a regional campus at Bradford, Greensburg, or Johnstown would often be considered for candidates with TOEFL scores between 80 and 94 (6.5 IELTS, 115 to 120 Duolingo). On their admissions application, we advise applicants to rank the campuses according to their preferences.

The University of Pittsburgh does not recognise MyBest results for the TOEFL, only iBT scores from a single test date. IELTS Indicator and TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition are accepted by Pitt.

After being accepted and paying an enrollment deposit, all new overseas students will take an English language competence test. The student will be obliged to enrol in the suggested classes if Pitt's English Language Institute suggests that they study English as a Second Language (ESL) based on their test results.

To be eligible for admission to the University of Pittsburgh, international students must provide scores from any one of the examinations listed below that demonstrate their ability in the English language.
