Program Description

Operations and Supply Chain helps optimize a firm’s supplier or customer network to create an outstanding product or service.  Leading companies rely on operations and supply chain professionals to create high quality products and services while minimizing wastes to reduce costs. They are ultimately responsible for running the business efficiently and profitably. It may take a village to raise a child but it takes over 200 companies in numerous countries and on several continents to make a high quality smart phone. Similarly, to treat a patient it often takes a complex network of providers including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, insurance companies, and other entities. These networks are called supply chains.  Students gain knowledge of databases, quality management and six sigma as well as data visualization.  This knowledge can provide the foundation of knowledge for gaining certification in project management and six sigma after graduation.

The Student Experience

Interested in a career that can take you across the globe in virtually any industry? Operations management and supply chain jobs are fast-paced and exciting with competitive salaries. The Operations & Supply Chain major at the David Eccles School of Business gives students the world-class training they need to succeed in the business world.  The curriculum provides opportunities for study abroad in Pforzheim, Germany as well as an experiential learning capstone experience, OIS 5800. Students who do not complete a study abroad program can still get network and get involved on campus. The OM Club provides networking opportunities for students interested in Operations and Supply Chain; Business Scholars, Opportunity Scholars, BLinc and Women in Business provide additional opportunities for curricular and co-curricular involvement.

Career Opportunities

Upon graduation, you will be prepared to enter a number of careers in business and operations management. Become a product manager, supply chain manager, Six Sigma specialist, forecasting analyst, or inventory manager. You may also find employment as a supply chain or operations analyst. Remain in the U.S. and work at a local or national firm, or use the skills gained from a study abroad experience to work in a business overseas. With additional education and experience, students can also become entrepreneurs, COOs (Chief Operating Officers), or CEOs.
