About Western New England University

Western New England Institution, a private, nonprofit university in Springfield, Massachusetts, was established in 1919. Since 2011, it has been a university. It belongs to the Universities of Massachusetts, the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges, the Association of Independent Colleges, the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, the Association of American Colleges and Universities, and the College Entrance Examination Board. It was approved by the New England Commission of Higher Education.

It grants degrees in both professional and liberal arts fields. The academic divisions of the university are divided into five schools: the School of Professional Law, the College of Business, the College of Engineering, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

The Global Scholars programme offers Western New England University students the chance to improve themselves by learning about a different region or country outside the United States through academic study abroad opportunities. While each Global Scholars programme is managed by the College where the student is chosen. Each and every Global Scholar programme includes the fundamental components of an experience, such as study abroad and courses on global concerns, regional studies, or foreign languages. The College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, and College of Engineering all provide the programmes.

The University offers merit-based grants and scholarships to students, ranging from $40,000 to $88,000 over four years or $10,000 to $22,000 annually. These are given to first-year students who are enrolled full-time when they are accepted into the university. The University additionally distributes grants and scholarships based on financial need and prior academic success in addition to need-based scholarships.

John Joseph Bell, an Air Force commander and delegate from Virginia, and Nicholas Baldyga, a representative from Massachusetts, are two famous alumni. In addition, notable graduates from the university include Stephen Buoniconti JD'95, a former member of the Massachusetts Senate, and Thomas G. Bowman JD, a political advisor and retired Marine Corps Colonel who served as the United States Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Republican House Leader and WNEU graduate Lawrence F. Cafero, JD '81, is a representative from Connecticut and a member of the House of Representatives.
